The European Union could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans issued by the United States against five European individuals working on combating digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.

European Leaders Condemn US Move as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe including Emmanuel Macron charged Washington of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been central to campaigns to enact laws regulating American tech companies.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded coordinated campaigns to pressure US companies to punish US perspectives they disagree with,” stated a senior US official online. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”
