The second-hand marketplace Members Express Displeasure Over Sizing Changes
Members of the platform have expressed outrage due to a modification that led to items being listed as the wrong size.
The popular resale platform has altered its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes but did not contact all users about the change.
Social Media Response
Countless users and merchants have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a modified sizing category than originally posted as a result of the reclassification.
The platform stated the new system was more in line with other platforms.
They have suggested members to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.
Sizing System Updates
Earlier, the sizing featured a single numeric size and a letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Member Accounts
One content creator, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Few clothing companies classify XL as 20-22," which is what Vinted now does.
Stephanie Gallen, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Required Changes
Another shopper, located in England, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the measurements for "each individual item".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she said.
Platform Context
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: earlier, the service retracted a modification concerning shipment methods following member complaints.
